Softball Game Preview: Northwestern Regional Highlanders vs. Shepaug Valley Spartans

The Northwestern Regional Highlanders will square off against the Shepaug Valley Spartans at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Northwestern Regional's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over Wolcott RVT. The victory continues a trend for the Highlanders in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won eight in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shepaug Valley). They put the hurt on Terryville with a sharp 23-1 win on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Cameron Tisi made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Shepaug Valley got a massive performance out of Emma O'Dwyer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with eight RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Those four hits gave O'Dwyer a new career-high. Hayden Fisher was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Northwestern Regional's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Shepaug Valley, the win got them back to even at 10-10.

Everything went Northwestern Regional's way against Shepaug Valley when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Northwestern Regional made off with an 8-1 victory.
