Basketball Recap: Permian Comes Up Short

Permian easily dispatched Bowie on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Panthers fell just short of the Americas Trail Blazers by a score of 63-61 on Friday. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Trail Blazers earlier this season, when they won 47-28.

It was another big night for Josh Pichardo, who went 10-for-14 to rack up 32 points for Americas. The Trail Blazers are 5-1 when Pichardo posts 15 or more points, but 3-4 otherwise. Emiliano Zaragoza was another key player, putting up eight points.

Permian's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Americas, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.

Coincidentally, Permian and Americas will both be playing Presidio the next time they take the court. The Trail Blazers will head out to face the Blue Devils at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Panthers will play them later in the day, at 1:00 p.m.
