Football Recap: Normal University Takes a Loss

Normal University fought the good fight in their overtime match against MacArthur on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They and the Generals were almost perfectly matched up, but they suffered a 28-27 loss. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Generals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Owen Kirby, who threw for 158 yards and three TDs. Normal University also got a significant boost from Rhett Lynch, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.

Normal University's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 1-2. As for MacArthur, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Normal University is set to face off against their familiar foe Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, MacArthur will challenge rival Decatur Eisenhower at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
