Preview: South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls vs. Bessemer City Yellow Jackets
The South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Bessemer City Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd. South Stanly comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Last Friday, South Stanly didn't have quite enough to beat Union Academy and fell 14-12.
Meanwhile, Bessemer City never let their opponents score on Friday. They claimed a resounding 60-0 win over Cherryville at home. The victory was just what Bessemer City needed coming off of a 64-0 loss in their prior game.
Bessemer City found their leader in underclassman Gavin Chastain, who threw for 329 yards and eight touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes. Achilles Littlejohn did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 88 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground.
Another reason for the win was Bessemer City's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Anthony Smith and his two sacks.
Union Academy's win bumped their season record to 2-8 while South Stanly's defeat dropped theirs to 4-6.
