Basketball Recap: Christ the King Skates Past Mountain Island Charter with Ease

Christ the King came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 48 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by the Mountain Island Charter Raptors to the tune of 63-32. Given the Crusaders' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 194th, while the Raptors are ranked 498th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Christ the King got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Claire Broda out in front who posted 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. Those 19 points gave Broda a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Rosie Gorman, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine steals.

Christ the King was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain Island Charter only posted six assists.

Despite the loss, Mountain Island Charter had strong showings from Tarriah Washington, who earned eight points and five steals, and Kayla Fudge, who had ten points and seven boards. Washington has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last five times she's played.

Christ the King's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 19.8 points per game. As for Mountain Island Charter, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Christ the King didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 52-20 win against Corvian Community on the 30th. As for Mountain Island Charter, they will face off against Pine Lake Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
