Football Game Preview: Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles vs. Christian Brothers Cadets

The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles will face off against the Christian Brothers Cadets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Providence Day, who was ranked second in their home state at the time (Rabun Gap-Nacoochee was ranked 18th). The Eagles lost 55-34 to the Chargers last Friday. The Eagles were down 48-28 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the loss, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee got top-tier performance from Joshua Buckhalter, who picked up 115 receiving yards and one score, and also punched in one rushing score. Buckhalter really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 75 yards. Another player making a difference was Gavin Owens, who threw for 236 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes.

Even if they lost, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee's defensive line still kept up the pressure with six sacks. Ryan Hassett was especially locked on to Providence Day's QB and sacked him twice. Isaac Lukuni was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making ten total tackles.

Meanwhile, Christian Brothers strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They claimed a resounding 65-33 victory over Lipscomb Academy. Fans of the Cadets have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Christian Brothers, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
