Volleyball Game Preview: Appleton East Patriots vs. Oshkosh West Wildcats

Appleton East hasn't had much luck against Oshkosh West recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Appleton East and Appleton West faced off in a cross-town battle on Thursday. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Terrors. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.

Appleton East walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the second set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-13, 25-20.

Appleton East relied on the efforts of Zoe Wockenfus, who had 16 digs and five assists, and Izzy Mead, who had 11 digs. That's the most assists Wockenfus has posted since back in September. Emma Jacobs also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

Oshkosh West won the last time they faced Oshkosh North and Elaina Butz did her part to make sure it happened again. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 3-0 win on Thursday for which the team can thank Butz, who had 14 digs and seven assists. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last four games she's played.

The final score came out to 25-9, 25-16, 25-13.

Appleton East picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 10-21. As for Oshkosh West, their record now sits at 22-5.

Appleton East couldn't quite get it done against Oshkosh West when the teams last played back in October of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
