Basketball Recap: Mount Vernon Takes a Loss

Mount Vernon lost against Nooksack Valley back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Mount Vernon Bulldogs were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 50-49 to the Nooksack Valley Pioneers.

Mount Vernon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaida Duodu, who posted 18 points along with five boards and four steals. Duodu is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Anaya Saldivar-Slater, who had six points in addition to six assists and six boards.

Even though they lost, Mount Vernon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Mount Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Nooksack Valley, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

Mount Vernon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 45-35 win against Oak Harbor on the 21st. As for Nooksack Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-46 victory against Sedro-Woolley on the 19th.
