Baseball Recap: Montbello Comes Up Short

Montbello extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 4-17. They lost 10-1 to the Thomas Jefferson Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-5 back in April.

Corian Witcher was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Thomas Jefferson, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-17. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

On Thomas Jefferson's side, Xavier Navarro-Betancourt was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Navarro-Betancourt is becoming a predictor of the Spartans' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 2-16 when he doesn't). Jackson Lukens was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.

Looking ahead, Montbello will challenge Wheat Ridge at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Farmers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.24 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of. Thomas Jefferson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
