Basketball Recap: Charleston Collegiate Falls Despite Big Games from Thomas Reed and Grant Morrison

Charleston Collegiate and Bethesda Academy squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Charleston Collegiate had to settle for second. They fell 64-56 to the Bethesda Academy Blazers. The defeat continues a trend for the Sundevils in their matchups with the Blazers: they've now lost three in a row.

Charleston Collegiate's loss came despite strong showings from Grant Morrison and Thomas Reed. Morrison went 6-for-14 en route to 20 points along with seven assists and five steals, while Reed went 10-for-18 to rack up 24 points. Morrison has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last 26 times he's played.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Charleston Collegiate was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bethesda Academy only three assists.

Bethesda Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Israel Wright led the charge by dropping a double-double with 25 points and 14 boards. Those 14 rebounds gave Wright a new career-high. Franky Jackson was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 13 points and nine boards.

Charleston Collegiate's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Bethesda Academy, they now have a winning record of 14-13.

Charleston Collegiate does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bethesda Academy, they have already played their next game, a 73-58 defeat against Andrew Jackson Academy on the 20th.
