Baseball Recap: Von Steuben Snags Fourth Victory in Last Five Games

Von Steuben came out on top against Brooks on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Panthers took their contest against the Eagles 8-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-1 last Saturday.

Axel Rivera tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Luke Johnston and George Allen did most of the damage at the plate: Johnston went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, while Allen got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Johnston a new career-high. Matteo Banuelos was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Von Steuben is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-12-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Brooks, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 14 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-21 record this season.

Von Steuben will take on Lane Tech at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Champions will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight. Brooks does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
