Rincon/University and Desert View are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Rincon/University Rangers will host the Desert View Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rincon/University will be strutting in after a victory while Desert View will be coming in after a loss.
Rincon/University is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against South Mountain on Monday as Rincon/University made off with a 14-1 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Marciella Castillo made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Castillo was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Rincon/University got a massive performance out of Sophia Castillo, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Bella Gyuro, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Rincon/University always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Desert View was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Tucson High Magnet School, falling 13-1.
Desert View saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leia Switzer, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
The win made it two in a row for Rincon/University and bumps their season record up to 3-5. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 7.5 strikeouts in those games compared to only 2.33 in the others. As for Desert View, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
Rincon/University might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Desert View in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will Rincon/University have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
