Preview: Providence Academy Lions vs. St. Clair Cyclones
The Providence Academy Lions will be playing at home against the St. Clair Cyclones at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Providence Academy faced Maple Grove in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Providence Academy took a 86-80 hit to the loss column at the hands of Maple Grove. It was the first time this season that Providence Academy let down their fans at home.
The losing side was boosted by Maddyn Greenway, who scored 44 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. That was a full 55% of Providence Academy's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ari Peterson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, St. Clair was able to grind out a solid victory over Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Monday, taking the game 73-62. Given St. Clair's advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons is ranked 353rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Providence Academy's defeat ended a 17-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 17-4. As for St. Clair, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a massive bump to their 15-7 record this season.
