Softball Recap: Marina Comes Up Short

Marina lost against Los Alamitos back in April, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Vikings fell just short of the Griffins by a score of 6-4. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mia Valbuena spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marina saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liz Byer, who went 3-for-4 with one run.

Marina now has a losing record of 12-13. As for Los Alamitos, they pushed their record up to 15-12 with the victory, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Marina will head out to square off against Newport Harbor at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The Sailors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.88 runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Los Alamitos, they will square off against Fountain Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Barons' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Griffins' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
