Ponderosa comes up short despite Maddison Neale's dominant performance

Recap: Ponderosa Mustangs vs. Douglas County Huskies

The Ponderosa Mustangs struggled with offensive rebounds on Thursday (the Douglas County Huskies had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Ponderosa took a 67-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Douglas County. Ponderosa has struggled against Douglas County recently, as their match on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Ponderosa still got an impressive performance from Maddison Neale, who went 7 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Neale has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Miale Ames, who scored seven points along with three steals.

Sofia Baldessari continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Douglas County, scoring 43 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Baldessari is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games she's played. Megan Thorne was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.

Ponderosa's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-9. As for Douglas County, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Ponderosa will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Regis Jesuit at 5:30 p.m. Regis Jesuit presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Ponderosa in Colorado (Regis Jesuit is ranked 20th, while Ponderosa is ranked 153rd). As for Douglas County, they will head out on the road to face off against Rock Canyon at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rock Canyon is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
