Baseball Recap: Gaston Christian Extends Winning Streak to Six

Gaston Christian came tearing into Friday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Asheville Christian Academy Lions as they made off with a 14-4 victory. Considering the Eagles have won eight matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Cooper Summerlin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Xander Sutton, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Carter Rowe was another key player, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs.

Gaston Christian's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Asheville Christian Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

As of now, neither Gaston Christian nor Asheville Christian Academy have any future games scheduled.
