Baseball Recap: Bishop Ward Takes a Loss

Bishop Ward extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 8-8 in the process. They came up short against the Pembroke Hill Raiders, falling 7-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cyclones have suffered against the Raiders since April 3, 2017.

Manny Dunn was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Rolando Calderon was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for Pembroke Hill, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-3-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.2 runs.

On Pembroke Hill's side, Eli Sitzer made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Sitzer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Sitzer wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nico Chiu, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Beckett Berning also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop Ward will venture away from home to take on Baldwin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Pembroke Hill, they will head out to square off against East Buchanan at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
