Baseball Recap: Colts Neck Drops Highest Score of Season Against Middletown South

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Colts Neck). They walked away with a 14-10 win over the Middletown South Eagles on Monday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Cougars, who until this match were averaging 3.69 runs allowed.

John Glusko was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dan Annunziata, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Colts Neck kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.8.

The victory was the third in a row for Colts Neck, bringing their record up to 10-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Middletown South, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.
