Basketball Recap: L'Anse Comes Up Short

L'Anse lost against Ewen-Trout Creek back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The L'Anse Purple Hornets took a 60-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ewen-Trout Creek Panthers. The Purple Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, L'Anse saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sam Lee went 9-for-18 on his way to 20 points and five boards. The contest was Lee's fifth in a row with at least 20 points. Another player making a difference was Rodrigo Cotta, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, L'Anse smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

L'Anse now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Ewen-Trout Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. L'Anse will challenge North Dickinson at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ewen-Trout Creek, they will take on Johnston at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
