Basketball Recap: North Point Triumphs

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but North Point ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They managed a 67-63 victory over the Chopticon Braves. The win almost wasn't to be: the Eagles were down 33-18 in the second quarter.

Landhn Mathis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 10 of 23 to rack up 38 points and three steals. North Point is 2-1 when Mathis posts 25 or more points, but 5-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Johnson, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 10 points.

North Point smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Chopticon lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Brian McMahon, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. With that strong performance, McMahon is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. Tori Carter was another key player, going 6 of 11 en route to 18 points and three steals.

North Point's record is now 7-10. As for Chopticon, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.

North Point has already played their next game, a 48-45 victory against McDonough on the 5th. As for Chopticon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 69-62 defeat against Northern on the 5th.
