Basketball Recap: Mallard Creek Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Mallard Creek extended their home winning streak to 19 games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from My?Asia Young. The Mallard Creek Mavericks enjoyed a cozy 47-30 victory over the West Charlotte Lions on Friday thanks in part to Young, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games she's played.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bri'Asia Rowe, who posted six points and ten boards. Kenya Grier was another key player, putting up four points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Mallard Creek's win bumped their record up to 16-2. As for West Charlotte, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5.

Mallard Creek and West Charlotte should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Mallard Creek will face off against Hopewell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 451 places (9 vs. 460). Mallard Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.9 points per game this season. Similarly, West Charlotte (ranked 109th) will meet West Mecklenburg (ranked 511th) at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
