Baseball Recap: Centerville Drops Season-High Score on Wells

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Centerville). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Wells Pirates an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Bulldogs have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kolt Larsen made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jake Slaten was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Eli Emmons, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Centerville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Wells, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Centerville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Pirates: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
