Softball Recap: Onaga Extends Winning Streak to Five

Onaga had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Pleasant Ridge Rams a 13-0 shutout. Surprisingly, this marked the Buffaloes' sixth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Willow Hochstedler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Addison DeChant and Annie Force did most of the damage at the plate: DeChant went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Force went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Abbie Ringel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Onaga kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive games.

Onaga's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Pleasant Ridge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Onaga will be playing at home against Doniphan West at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Buffaloes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. As for Pleasant Ridge, they will venture away from home to challenge Atchison County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Rams are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
