Basketball Recap: Bishop Gorman Takes a Loss

After flying high against Spring Valley last Tuesday, Bishop Gorman came back down to earth. The Bishop Gorman Gaels were just a bucket shy of victory on Wednesday and fell 46-45 to the Democracy Prep Agassi Campus Blue Knights. The Gaels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Bishop Gorman's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaliah Spaight, who posted 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Savannah Searcy was another key player, putting up seven points and 13 boards.

Even though they lost, Bishop Gorman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

It was another big night for Bray'Ana Miles, who went 6-for-11 to rack up 15 points along with eight assists and three steals for Democracy Prep Agassi Campus. Miles is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Keonni Lewis, who put up 13 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Bishop Gorman's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Democracy Prep Agassi Campus, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season.

Bishop Gorman has already played their next game, a 51-7 win against Clark on the 6th. As for Democracy Prep Agassi Campus, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-26 victory against Faith Lutheran on the 6th.
