Football Recap: Chugiak Falls Short Against Ranked West Valley

Chugiak faced West Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Mustangs took a 34-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolf Pack. Surprisingly, this marked the Mustangs' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Although Chugiak took the loss, they still got scores from Ben Hiestand and Luke Poland.

West Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jacob Sherer out in front who rushed for 126 yards and four TDs. Another rusher making a difference was Landen Glynn, who rushed for 150 yards on only 14 carries.

Chugiak's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 8.78 yards per carry in those games compared to only 3.45 in the others. As for West Valley, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4.

Chugiak has already played their next contest, a 35-21 defeat against Palmer on the 26th. As for West Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 26-13 victory against North Pole on the 26th.
