Baseball Recap: Southington Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Southington ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Newington Nor'easters 6-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-1 back in April.

Ryan DeGumbia and Aiden DeGrandis dominated on the mound. DeGumbia pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while DeGrandis pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. DeGrandis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Mark Zigmont was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Southington's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-4. As for Newington, they now have a losing record of 5-6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southington will challenge Hall at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Titans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Blue Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Newington, they will face off against Enfield at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
