Softball Preview: Oberlin Phoenix vs. Keystone Wildcats
Oberlin hasn't had much luck against Keystone recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Phoenix will head out on the road to challenge the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m.
Oberlin is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 23 runs two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Firelands on Monday. They lost 30-1 to the Falcons.
Clara McCown was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing five bases while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Keystone). They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over Black River on Monday.
Brooklyn Modock spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jordan Owca, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Ava Armitage was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Keystone was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Black River only posted a batting average of .200.
Oberlin now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Keystone, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-5.
