Softball Recap: St. Albans Red Dragons vs. Capital Cougars
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Albans). They put the hurt on the Capital Cougars with a sharp 18-2 win on Tuesday. The Red Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 11 runs or more this season.

Ava Bentley made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, St. Albans got a massive performance out of Ali Long, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Long continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige White, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.
St. Albans kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
St. Albans now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Capital, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.
Looking ahead, St. Albans will head out on the road to square off against South Charleston at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Capital, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Elk Valley Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
