Recap: Maple Mountain Golden Eagles vs. Timpview Thunderbirds
The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 68-56 to Timpview. Maple Mountain has not had much luck with Timpview recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Maple Mountain still got an impressive performance from Matt Peterson, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Bennett Averett, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Timpview got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mason Ford out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Ford pulled down eight or more rebounds. Aisa Galea'i was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Maple Mountain has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season. As for Timpview, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maple Mountain will challenge Wasatch at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Wasatch is ranked 54th, while Maple Mountain is ranked 44th). As for Timpview, they will head out on the road to take on Spanish Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Spanish Fork focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
