Baseball Game Preview: Oxford Prep Griffins vs. Roxboro Community Bulldogs

Oxford Prep is 1-9 against Roxboro Community since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Griffins will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Oxford Prep's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Wake Prep Academy. The victory was familiar territory for the Griffins, who have now won 13 contests in a row.

Oxford Prep let Davis Faulkner and Drew West run wild. Faulkner went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs, while West went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits West has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gage Hobgood, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Oxford Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wake Prep Academy only posted an OBP of .278.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Roxboro Community). They blew past Excelsior Classical Academy 13-4 last Thursday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Flying Lions recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Oxford Prep's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Roxboro Community, their victory bumped their record up to 6-10.

Oxford Prep couldn't quite finish off Roxboro Community when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Griffins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
