Softball Recap: Niles West Takes a Loss

Niles West came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Mundelein Mustangs, falling 12-4.

Ava Kolbe made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Sarah Park, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Niles West's loss dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Mundelein, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Niles West will head out to face off against Vernon Hills at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Mundelein, they will venture away from home to take on Waukegan at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.15 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
