Softball Recap: Baraboo Thunderbirds vs. Portage Warriors
Baraboo had lost six straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 7-8 to make it seven. They came up short against the Portage Warriors, falling 10-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-3 last Friday.
As for Portage, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Considering they have won ten contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
For Portage's part, Ally Saloun made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Saloun has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Jackie Seiler and Brynn Langan did most of the damage at the plate: Seiler went 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles, while Langan went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Seiler has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alana Brandsma, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.
Coincidentally, Baraboo and Portage will both be playing Mount Horeb the next time they take the field. The Warriors will head out to face the Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Thunderbirds will host them at 5:00 p.m. on the 15th.
