League recap: Berridge races to league-leading run for Randleman

2A Conference 8 recap September 17, 2013

Randleman's Bradley Berridge recorded the longest rushing play in 2A Conference 8 this season in his game against Asheboro last week. Berridge's team lost to the Blue Comets as he sprinted for 60 yards on the play and finished with 73 in all.

Wheatmore fell to Bishop McGuinness 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Nathan Sloan and Berridge gave Randleman a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Bobby Gibbs also contributed to the rushing game with 13 yards on the ground.

Sloan and Berridge gave Shane Handy's team a balanced attack through the air and ground last week.

Sloan put up the best numbers through the air as the Tigers fell to Asheboro. He finished with 10 completions for 102 yards and 3 touchdowns. Sloan's favorite target this week was Juval Mollette, who caught 3 passes for 39 yards.

Aaron Cox was a passing and rushing force as Trinity lost to Union Pines. He completed 17 passes for 171 yards and also ran for 15 yards. Cox's favorite target this week was Austin Sexton, who caught 5 passes for 48 yards.

Berridge was the most successful running back in the league this week.

Sexton was the best wideout in the league this week as the Bulldogs fell to the Vikings. Adam Johnson helped Trinity's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 23 yards.

Leading 2A Conference 8 in both passing and receiving yards, Randleman's Sloan and Jacar Green have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Sloan has thrown for 595 yards this season, while Green has 7 catches for 166 yards. DJ Pratt from Trinity leads the league in rushing with 456 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Trinity takes on second place Randleman. Clayton Trivett's team fell to Union Pines last week, while the Tigers lost to the Blue Comets.

Providence Grove made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 12,057 from 12,843. The improvement came about via a 21-6 victory over Southwestern Randolph last week.
