Baseball Recap: Irvington Takes a Loss

Irvington had lost five straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 7-16 to make it six. They came up short against the Newark Memorial Cougars, falling 6-0. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Angus Buchanan was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 6.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

As for Newark Memorial, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 17-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games.

On Newark Memorial's side, the result came thanks to Connor Murphy's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Malosi Gaoteote was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

While Irvington had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
