Baseball Recap: Avon Comes Up Short

Avon extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 8-12-1. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fishers Tigers. That's two games in a row now that the Orioles have lost by just one run.

Kail Tislow was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in April.

On the hitting side, Grady Swain was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

As for Fishers, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-12. That's two games straight that they have won by just one run.

On Fishers' side, Hayden Werner got the start for Fishers and what a start it was: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). Werner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season. Grant Wolf relieved him and did a solid job, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Andrew Baldini, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

Coincidentally, Avon and Fishers will both be playing McCutcheon the next time they take the field. The Tigers will host the Mavericks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Orioles will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
