Baseball Game Preview: Murphysboro Red Devils vs. Carterville Lions

Murphysboro is 0-8-1 against Carterville since April of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Red Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Lions at 4:30 p.m. Carterville took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Murphysboro, who comes in off a win.

Murphysboro proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by six) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Harrisburg 3-2.

The team relied heavily on William Bess, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Mason Bastien was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Carterville came up short against Massac County on Monday and fell 8-4. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Parker Poole was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. Aidan Swallers also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Carterville's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Murphysboro, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-8.
