Melba had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They were beaten by the Elko Indians 44-0 on Friday. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2022.

Jake Carsrud had a dynamite game for Elko, rushing for 139 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Coy Jones, who picked up 76 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Elko's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Melba will face off against Cole Valley Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Elko, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fernley at 7:00 p.m. on September 13th.
