Football Recap: Wallkill Falls to Saugerties in First Game of Season

Wallkill unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 20-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Saugerties Sawyers on Friday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it nine in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Wallkill lost, don't look at Connor Bleichner. Despite the final result, he picked up 137 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Bleichner got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 69 yards.

Looking ahead, Wallkill will be playing in front of their home fans against Monticello at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Saugerties, they are taking a road trip to square off against Marlboro Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give the Sawyers their first taste of in-conference action this season.
