Baseball Game Preview: Greenbrier West Cavaliers vs. Summers County Bobcats

Greenbrier West and Summers County are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Cavaliers will challenge the Bobcats at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Greenbrier West blew Midland Trail out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Wednesday Midland Trail got their revenge. The Cavaliers fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 9-7. Surprisingly, this marked the Cavaliers' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Greenbrier West saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landen Doss, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Doss has become a key player for the Cavaliers: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-12 otherwise. Alex Jenkins also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Summers County's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They lost 14-4 to Shady Spring.

Greenbrier West has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Summers County, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-18-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Greenbrier West has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Summers County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Greenbrier West couldn't quite finish off Summers County in their previous meeting two weeks ago and fell 4-2. Can the Cavaliers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
