Softball Recap: Western Beaver Starts Season with Win on the Road

Western Beaver had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Freedom Area Bulldogs with a sharp 20-2 victory on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Golden Beavers also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Izzie Lefebvre (2025) was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lefebvre (2025) was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Bella Colatriano (2026) was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Zele (2025), who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Coming up, Western Beaver will take on Upper St. Clair at 7:00 p.m. on March 20th. As for Freedom Area, they will be playing at home against Rochester at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Freedom Area is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak dating back to last season.
