Upstate Eight - River recap Oct. 23, 2012

Batavia extended the longest winning streak in Upstate Eight - River this week by beating Elgin, 49-12. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Bulldogs.

Geneva and Streamwood played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Geneva eventually emerging with a 35-34 victory. Bobby Hess threw for five yards and one touchdown and ran for 145 yards in the win.

The Maroons' dynamic duo of Dontrell Gaddy and Joe DeBrocke proved tough for Batavia to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Gaddy threw for 115 yards and two touchdowns and DeBrocke had 69 yards receiving. Malik Dunner helped Elgin's passing attack out by catching two balls for 68 yards.

Micah Coffey provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Dennis Piron's team bested Elgin. He completed seven passes for 169 yards and one touchdown and also ran for one yards. Coffey's favorite target this week was Rourke Mullins, who caught one pass for 60 yards.

Jake Boser made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Vikings defeated the Sabres. The 5-foot-10 defensive lineman grabbed 1.5 sacks.

The Bulldogs' Coffey and Zachary Strittmatter have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Coffey has thrown for 1600 yards this season, while Strittmatter, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 47 catches for 715 yards. Hess from Geneva leads the league in rushing with 1496 yards.

Frank Martin's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,711 from 4,848. The improvement was the result of 35-34 victory over Streamwood last week.
