Preview: Weeping Water Indians vs. Thayer Central Titans
The Weeping Water Indians will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Thayer Central Titans at 7:00 p.m. Weeping Water will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Last Friday, Weeping Water humbled Omaha Christian Academy with a 76-8 victory. The result was nothing new for Weeping Water, who have now won five games by 26 points or more so far this season.
Weeping Water got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sayler Rhodes out in front who rushed for 137 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, and also picked up 35 receiving yards. Rhodes is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Riggs Wilson, who threw for 135 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Thayer Central came up short against Johnson County Central on Thursday and fell 22-14.
Sam Souerdyke put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 169 yards.
Weeping Water has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first eight games, giving them a 6-2 record. As for Thayer Central, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's match: Weeping Water has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 249.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Thayer Central struggles in that department as they've been even better at 281.5 per game. It's looking like Thursday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Weeping Water didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Thayer Central in their previous meeting back in September of 2019, but they still walked away with a 42-36 victory. Does Weeping Water have another victory up their sleeve, or will Thayer Central turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
