Softball Recap: Cave Spring Victorious

While Cave Spring's victory against William Byrd wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Knights had just enough and edged out the Terriers 5-4 on Wednesday. The Knights have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Terriers, too.

Caitlyn Karnes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Danica Ogle was excellent, going 1-for-3 with four RBI and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

Cave Spring hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Cave Spring's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for William Byrd, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cave Spring will venture away from home to take on Patrick Henry at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for William Byrd, they will head out to face off against Fleming at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
