Softball Game Preview: Hawkins Hawks vs. Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs

The Hawkins Hawks will challenge the Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Hawkins is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Mildred as they made off with a 14-5 victory. The Hawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Kalyn Ellison made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alana Gipson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Taetum Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Corrigan-Camden made sure to put some runs up on the board against Lovelady on Saturday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Lions. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Hawkins is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a massive bump to their 20-11-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Corrigan-Camden, their victory bumped their record up to 21-5-1.
