Baseball Game Preview: Calhoun Academy Cougars vs. Kirk Academy Raiders

The Calhoun Academy Cougars are taking a road trip to face off against the Kirk Academy Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Calhoun Academy will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Cougars on Thursday. Calhoun Academy came out on top against Lee Academy by a score of 10-6.

Meanwhile, Kirk Academy had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Regents on Monday as they made off with a 12-5 victory. The Raiders not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 10th.

Conner Timbs was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Kirk Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-6 otherwise. Timbs was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Holt Gober was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Anthony Carollo was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Kirk Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Calhoun Academy's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Kirk Academy, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Calhoun Academy might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Kirk Academy in their previous matchup back in February. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
