Basketball Recap: Baker Braves vs. Big Pine Warriors
If Big Pine wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Baker, they should've done a better job of containing Anthony Ortiz. The Baker Braves pulled ahead with a 40-39 photo finish over the Big Pine Warriors on Friday thanks in part to Ortiz, who went 7 for 10 en route to 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Baker's points.
Despite the loss, Big Pine saw an underclassman step up: sophomore NOAH ERICSON posted 17 points and five steals. ERICSON is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of CHANCE DIXON, who had five points and 13 boards.
Baker's win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Big Pine, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-3 record.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Lee Vining the next time they take the court. Baker will host Lee Vining at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Big Pine will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
