Springstead has won four straight games at home, while Weeki Wachee has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Springstead Eagles will host the Weeki Wachee Hornets at 7:30 p.m. Both are at an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but likely not for long.
Springstead is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Lecanto: they outscored them in every quarter. Springstead walked away with a 34-23 victory over Lecanto on Tuesday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while the Panthers are ranked 287th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Springstead got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Briana Coleman out in front who posted eight points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of J'Ziyah Munford, who put up seven points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Weeki Wachee). They blew past Hudson 73-37 on Thursday. The Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 22 points or more this season.
Springstead better keep an eye on Reese Halter. She was instrumental in Weeki Wachee's win, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 11 boards. Those 29 points gave Halter a new career-high. Rayana Coleman was another key player, putting up 13 points and three steals.
Weeki Wachee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.
Weeki Wachee has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.1 points per game. As for Springstead, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.
Springstead was able to grind out a solid win over Weeki Wachee in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, winning 49-42. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Weeki Wachee's Joelys Rodriquez, who had 18 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Springstead still be able to contain Rodriquez? There's only one way to find out.
