Basketball Recap: Cascade Takes a Loss

Cascade has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 59-49 to the Wapahani Raiders on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Cadets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Raiders are ranked 87th).

Despite the loss, Cascade still got an impressive performance from Chloe Smith, who went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc on her way to 26 points. With that strong performance, Smith is now averaging an impressive 15.8 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Hall, who posted five points and seven rebounds.

Wapahani's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kimber Abshear, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Abshear is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Emily Luce was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine assists.

Cascade's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Wapahani, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.

Cascade wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 46-43 defeat against Indianapolis Shortridge on the 28th. As for Wapahani, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 45-30 loss against Oldenburg Academy on the 28th.
