Baseball Recap: Hickory Grove Christian Starts Season with Win Against Parkwood

Hickory Grove Christian gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Parkwood Wolf Pack with a sharp 14-4 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Lions have posted since April 23, 2024.

Davis Cabbage made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cabbage was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other pitching news, Zach Frost looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Ben Green was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Gavin Pelow was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Looking ahead, Hickory Grove Christian will take on Christ the King on Thursday. As for Parkwood, they will face off against Sun Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Parkwood has now lost nine straight dating back to last season, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 11.
