Softball Recap: Western Pioneers vs. Los Amigos Lobos

Western extended their losing streak to ten on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-13 in the process. They lost 12-2 to the Los Amigos Lobos. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lobos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-2 on April 2nd.

Western saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Desiree Leal, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

As for Los Amigos, their record is now 13-4. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

On Los Amigos' side, Sophia Gutierrez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Gutierrez has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Alina Mendez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Leah Lemusu was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

Western wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 17-0 loss against Santiago on the 23rd. As for Los Amigos, they have also already played their next contest, a 4-3 win against Savanna on the 25th.
